Boy at MECSPE: Overmoulding of ice scrapers with TPE

With a fully automated application, the injection moulding machinery supplier Dr. Boy will be present at MECSPE in Parma (28-30 March 2019, stand 13, hall 6).

A Boy 35 E VV with an integrated five-axis handling system of Igus on the machine table will produce ice scrapers during the three days of the fair. The removal handling device removes the prefabricated ice scrapers from a magazine and places them into the open mould. After the overmoulding of the TPE lip, the finished parts are removed from the mould by the gripper hand and placed on a conveyor belt for cooling purposes. The pneumatically driven robot Robolink performs its automation tasks with the same precision as many of its larger competitors, it is, however, much more flexible in handling and positioning. Via the Euromap interface the control of the robot communicates perfectly with the control Procan Alpha of the machine.

Francesco Valsecchi, Managing Director of the Italian Boy-representation ST.A.TE Technologies srl is convinced that the participation in this event is an important corner stone to further strengthen the market share in Italy. Wolfgang Schmidt, Export Manager at Boy, agrees: „Due to the extremely high product and material diversity of most Italian customers, our machines are following the trend. In terms of set-up time, which is particularly important for small and medium-sized companies, our injection moulding machines are ideal in the clamping force range up to 1250 kN. Same applies to the vertical insert moulding machines up to 550 kN clamping force. Also in this year we are expecting positive results from Italy.”

The fixed lower clamping plate is the constructive advantage of the insert moulding machine, says the company. This feature is said to guarantee a stable position of the insert parts during the closing process. The equipment with a servo motor pump drive and the control Procan Alpha allows shot weights up to maximum 69.5 g (PS) for high-precision applications. Further benefits of the insert moulding machine are the compact footprint of 1.67 m², plenty of space for peripheral equipment on the machine frame and the flexibility of a universal injection unit for screw diameters of 14 to 32 mm.
