KraussMaffei plans relocation from Munich-Allach to Parsdorf starting in 2022

The KraussMaffei Group announced that it plans to relocate its main plant and corporate headquarters from Munich’s Allach district to Parsdorf/Vatterstetten, just east of Munich. The relocation process is set to begin in mid-2022 and be completed by 2027.

On 18 January 2019, the company signed an agreement to this end with VGP, a European developer of industrial real estate. The lease has a term of 25 years, includes extension options and is subjection to Supervisory Board approval. The Executive Board will present the relocation plans for approval to the Supervisory Board and employee representatives in the coming months.

“After almost a century of successful work at the Allach site, we are now clearly reaching our limits here. For the next chapter in our history, we need a sustainable, modern location. We are delighted to have found such a location in Parsdorf,” said Dr. Frank Stieler, CEO of KraussMaffei. The site in Parsdorf/Vaterstetten measures 250,000 m2 and offers space for some 2,500 jobs. Four new factory halls, a tech centre, two office buildings and two modern parking garages with charging stations for electric cars are to be constructed.

“The location in Parsdorf presents a golden opportunity for KraussMaffei. We need to seize this opportunity now in order to remain competitive in the long term and a leader in global markets. We are gaining more space for accelerating our growth, securing existing jobs and creating new ones,” said Stieler. Approximately 1,800 employees currently work at the present location in Munich-Allach. The site, however, does not offer sufficient space for expansion, said KraussMaffei.

“With the storied machine manufacturer, a global company with great innovative strength and a convincing growth strategy will move in and open a new chapter in its more than 180-year history. This also corresponds to our company philosophy, which is based on long-term, sustainable commitment. We look forward to working with KraussMaffei,” said Jan van Geet, CEO of VGP.

Georg Reitsberger, First Mayor of Vaterstetten, welcomed the settlement of the Munich-based technology company in his community: “KraussMaffei has always been our preferred candidate for developing this industrial estate. This is an important step for our community as well as for the region as a whole. We have already made a great deal of preliminary work for this step but still have a few things to do so that KraussMaffei can settle here.”

KraussMaffei is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of machinery and systems for the production of plastics and rubber. According to the company, the relocation and modernisation of its largest site and the accompanying expansion of capacities is part of KraussMaffei’s growth strategy. The strategy focuses on unlocking new market potential for new machinery series over the coming years as well as strengthening the offer of digital products and services.

At its new site, KraussMaffei plans to focus on a smart factory concept so as to achieve a substantial increase in productivity through digitalisation and state-of-the-art logistics. The modernisation project is expected to allow the company to meet the growing demand for premium products and new solutions for local markets even faster.

KraussMaffei’s move from Allach to Parsdorf in 2022 will be one of the largest-scale relocation projects in the Munich area since the Munich Airport moved from Riem to Erding in May 1992.
