Thermax medium carbon black for TPE applications

There are various beneficial applications of carbon blacks in thermoplastics – they can contribute colour, opacity, electrical conductivity and protection from ultra-violet degradation to the thermoplastic materials. Thermax medium thermal carbon black (N990), supplied by Cancarb, are proven fillers for thermoplastics and provide low viscosity concentrates and compounds with high volume resistivity, which makes then useful in many applications including low voltage cables and films.

Cancarb said that the advantages observed when using Thermax in thermoplastics can be extended to TPEs where the carbon black improves dispersion and reduces overall compound cost. The large particle sized Thermax N990 has a unique effect on the compounding matrix, improving properties such as tensile strength and heat deflection temperature. (A technical article about the benefits of Thermax carbon black in TPEs will be published in one of the upcoming issues of TPE Magazine.)

Cancarb Ltd., Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, is a specialist in the development, manufacture, and global marketing of thermal carbon black. With a capacity of 45,000 t/y, Cancarb’s plant is the world’s largest of its kind. The company manufactures seven different grades of medium thermal carbon black which are sold under the tradename Thermax. Cancarb will exhibit together with its German distributor Nordmann, Rassmann at Fakuma 2018 (stand B5-5212).
