Dr. Boy: Automation and networking of injection moulding machines

The injection moulding machines manufacturer Dr. Boy GmbH & Co. KG will showcase eleven exhibits at the trade show. Six Boy injection moulding machines will also be presented at the stands of its partner companies. Amongst others, Boy will highlight its plastification technology Servo-Plast for the first time at K 2019 as well as a new alternative positioning option for its linear handling LR 5 on an injection moulding machine.

In addition, the company announced that it will demonstrate its core competencies in the overmoulding technology, in micro-injection moulding as well as in the processing of elastomers and silicones. According to Boy, the focus is on the increasing automation and networking of injection moulding machines and peripherals. To demonstrate these digitisation possibilities, the company will present a 2K hard/soft application. In this application, SEBS from Kraiburg TPE will be used to overmould a coffee cup on a Boy 125 E. With the active participation of the trade visitors, the interaction of injection moulding machine, handling, other peripherals, and a Cobot with collaborating robot technology will be rounded off in a barista show.

Both, the production data as well as the individual key data of the trade fair application can be traced back at any time according to Industry 4.0, said Boy. Furthermore, Teats for babies will be produced from the liquid silicone rubber Silastic NPC 9300-50 from Dow on a Boy 35 E. O-rings will be made of a 75 Shore A hardness NBR on a Boy XS. The TPV Alfater XL A 751 GP from Albis Plastic GmbH will be used to manufacture an ice scraper lip on a Boy 35 V VV. The issue of sustainability will be another focus of the trade show presentation. Bio-based and recycled materials will be processed on injection moulding machines in five different applications.
