It is common to join tubes with injection moulded components, such as connectors, by solvent bonding. Traditional TPS based formulations do not bond well with solvent – cyanoacrylate glue with or without primer is an alternative to achieve high bond strength in these situations. However, in addition, Hexpol TPE has developed a range of Mediprene TPE compounds which achieve high bond strength when applying solvents such as cyclohexanone. Mediprene solvent bondable TPEs for injection moulding are available in hardness’ from 60 Shore A to 45 Shore D and can be further expanded based on application requirements. The grades are transparent, and the tubing grades also offer good kink resistance properties.

The company said that all Mediprene Solvent Bondable series compounds fulfil the its strict raw material selection policy. The raw materials have a proven level of biocompatibility and are food contact compliant. Their Swedish production site in Åmal is accredited to ISO 13485 with documented traceability and change control processes.

Representative grades from the Mediprene standard TPE series have passed cytotoxicity tests according to ISO 10993-5 and biocompatibility tests according to ISO 10993-4 (hemolysis), ISO 10993-10 (Intracutaneous Reactivity and Sensitization), ISO 10993-11 (Acute Systemic Toxicity) and USP Class VI.
